. Green Moong Dal (whole)- 1 cup

. Ginger– 1 inch

. Green Chillies– 2

. Coriander Leaves 1/2cup

. Cumin seeds– 1 teaspoon

. Salt– 1tsp to taste

. Water– 1/4 cup

. Rice Flour– 3 teaspoon

. Oil for greasing 

. 1 small onion chopped 

. Carrot 1 small chopped

. Tomato 1 small chopped

Moong dal Chilla Step by Step Instructions




1. First soak the green moong dal. Soak the dal for 6 to 8 hours. After that wash the moong dal 2-3 times until the water and clean it.

2. Put the soaked dal in a blender pot. After that add 1-2 green chillies ½ inch ginger, a little water, coriander, salt to taste, cumin seeds, grind all these in a mixer. Add little water while grinding and grind. Take the prepared batter in a bowl.

3. Add spices and finely chopped tomato and finely chopped onion to the batter. Turmeric is optional. If you want to add it, then add it. And add finely chopped carrot. And add 2/3 teaspoon of rice flour to it. After that mix all this mixture with a spoon.

4. Heat a non-stick or cast iron tawa on medium flame on gas. After that, when the tawa is hot, lightly grease the pan with oil. After that, pour a bowl of batter on the pan and spread it like a pancake. Then add a few drops of oil around the edges. Cook on medium flame till the bottom side turns golden. Then flip it over and cook for another 2 minutes till the other side turns crispy and golden.

1. Be careful while making the batter. Green moong dal is soaked for at least 6-8 hours and becomes soft and gives a good texture. Do not make the batter too thin, make it as thin as you can spread. Do not make it too thin. You want such a consistency.

2. Be careful while cooking moong dal chilla. For crispy chillas, use a well-seasoned iron pan.

And use a non-stick pan. Always heat the pan properly before pouring the batter.

And oil the pan. But reduce the heat while spreading. Then increase it to cook again. To control the heat and prevent sticking, wipe the pan with a damp cloth between the chillas. This will reduce the heat.

3. To enhance the taste of moong dal chilla, add a pinch of asafoetida or cumin. And to increase the protein, you can add grated paneer or tofu.
